DO NOW 11/04/06 Pre-Reading Activities: Looking at the cover, what do you think the story is going to be about? What kind of expression does the person on the cover have? What can you tell about him? What do you associate with the word flies? 11/11/06 Start reading chapter 1 and describe the characters as you read the chapter. Make sure to write about their characteristics as well as their physical appearances. who are they? How are they valued in the group? Are they regarded as leaders or followers? Are they respected or feared? What are their fears? 11/18/06 Finish reading chapter 1. Write a summary of the chapter in your own sentences. (Keep working on the Character Chart). 12/02/06 Read chapter 2 (pages 32-47). As you read the chapter, jut down any information you find about the chatacters in the character web.
